Which do you guys think is more effective?
I'm not aiming for massive gains, all I want is to tone up/lose a few pounds.
So I'm really tied up between whether to workout at home, and like jog outdoors or to go to the gym daily?
Which would make better results?

It has to do with the amount of time, that one has to invest. For instance if someone only has an hour to spare, they possibly don't desire to spent a half hour of it; in traffic instead of exercising. So then a home gym would be best & it doesn't have to be fancy. I began just by using, a couple full laundry detergent jugs; as dumbbells.0

The choice between working out at home or the gym is a matter of personal preference. Results are determined by how much effort and consistency you put into the process.0

Ive done my workout at home with ten pds dumbells and youtube exercising video and ive lost more weight vs being a member at a gym and jus nt being motivated and going. So for me home is more effective for me.0

the work is what is important, not where you do the work...the physical location from which you choose to do the work is completely irrelevant to results.
the only reason i go to a gym is for the weight room. my cardio work is done on my bike outdoors.
there are as many people who half *kitten* it in the gym as there are people who half *kitten* it at home...and there are as many people who crush it in the gym as there are people who crush it at home. your physical location is irrelevant.0 -
I LOVE both. Honest totally personal preference. The gym has so many machines that can hit the muscles differently and safely, AND paying monthly may be the kick in the *kitten* you need to stay on track. A person trainer may help for the same reason.
Home gym is always there for you, and sometimes when I know I do not want to drive to the gym, its nice to know that I can still get a workout in at home.

Since I don't go to a gym and really have no motivation or inclination to do so, I have to say home is definitely more beneficial for me. I can see myself coming up with a zillion excuses why I can't be bothered to go to the gym, if I ever did decide to join one.
Plus, working out in front of other people creeps me out. I pass by Planet Fitness at the mall all the time with the big glass windows so everybody in the mall can see and it just doesn't sit well with me. I can't figure out what possesses people to actually like going to places like that. I have a weird brain.0 -
I do cardio at home weights at a gym. Stationary bike in my livingroom0

Whatever.....you like. You will keep doing what you like. Your budget might help you decide. Hubby doesn't like dirt so he prefers the home gym and the club. I am an introvert who paradoxically likes excitement so I run and do Zumba. I come home from a Color me Rad or a Mud Hero event and hubby just shakes his head. He cannot fathom why I must pick activities that get me so dirty.
If you only need to firm up a bit you might like the full length mirrors at the gym. They are their own sort of motivation.0 -
i go to the gym because I can't fit a squat rack, cable machine, dumbbells, etc in my house and I need that equipment for the kind of program that I run.
like @cwolfman13 said you get out of your workout/routine what you put into it….0
