Is walking 10km four times a week good for weight loss?

Of course! Will help you burn calories and combined with eating at deficit, will definitely assist in weight loss.

Do you have a goal in mind? Weight or fitness goals and plans?

My only other question is, are you sure you want to walk 40km a week? That is an awful lot of time as walking 10km should take at least 90mins. I don' t think you need to do that much unless you absolutely love walking.

Don't get me wrong, I love long walks and take one a few times a month but I just can't free up that kind of time on a consistent basis. If your plan is simply to lose weight, eating less and walking is definitely a winning strategy. Some other forms of exercise that challenge the heart a little more are encouraged (assuming you are physically capable of it).

Depends on your age, general fitness level, how fast you're walking, whether you're going uphill or are walking on flat terrain, etc. I'm sure there are formulas based on body weight and walking speed, but remember they're just estimates.

The calories burned comes down to weight x intensity. The energy requried for walking is fairly well established. Figure out how far you go over what period of time to find your pace (with minutes per km/mile).
MFP's walking estimates should be fairly decent estimations.

About 40 cals per mile assuming flat and level. I'd disagree with the assertion above that calorie expenditureis about intensity, it' about mass and distance. Going faster means you can cover more distance by time, but it doesn' make a significant difference to expenditure by distance.
