It's not the end of the world if you miss it a day or two, but generally, you should eat the required calories. Your body gets its energy from burning your excess body fat if you eat at a calorie deficit. But you still need nutrients which you can only get from an adequate amount and quality of food. Otherwise you will get sick.
Eating back exercise calories on top of the required calories is something people decide for themselves. Some eat all if they trust the numbers, some up to half, others don't eat them back at all.

If you're new please know this

The calorie allowance MFP gives you is to lose weight without purposeful exercise

If you exercise you should log that too and eat those calories - BUT. To begin with half the calories estimated in MFP database or gym machines they overestimate for many. You can just click on the calorie and half it before entering.

Consider your calories as a weekly budget you should reach ..so if some days you are under other days can be over

Judge your weight loss in rolling 6-8 week cycles, take the average weekly loss ...if losing more than expected increase the percentage of exercise calories you eat back

This all relies on weighing and accurately logging your food

It's a learning curve ...but learn the habits and they will allow you to lose and maintain

What is your daily goal? How much are you eating? Is that net (after exercise is subtracted) or gross (total eaten)?
