Hi everyone,
I've been using MFP since April and have had great progress. Currently I'm on my last 5-10lbs. I've been sticking at ~1200cals daily and that has worked so far, however I've been stuck at the same weight for a month and a half now roughly. I've done some research (general internet searches-advice from other peoples experiences) and I have gathered that I could start eating more as an option.

I'm wondering if eating 50-100cals more would be a progressive option? I know everyones body is different but I'm just curious to see what others have done in this situation and would care to share their experiences?

(If this is the wrong place to post this I apologize in advance).

    Basic science CI<CO to lose.
It is just incredibly slow for some, including me, to lose those last few pounds. Stick with it, tighten up your logging as much as possible, weigh and measure everything, including nibbles, oils, and dressings.

    Cheers, h.

If you're not losing on your current calorie amount, then you definitely won't lose by eating more. Do you use a food scale and weigh/log every single thing? Check out this flow chart to troubleshoot:

If you're maintaining now on the calories you're eating, then adding more will most likely result in weight gain

If you haven't lost weight in a month and a half, eating more is not going to make you lose weight at all. Some people have claimed that has happened to them, but it's a case of them missing out on little things they eat here and there. People are wonderful at underestimating what they eat. If you follow the advice @middlehaitch laid out, you should see progress. Although, I would add that if you're eating back your exercise calories, you should reduce the amount you're eating back.

I track everything to the last ounce with a food scale. Maybe I am doing something wrong? There's just so much information out there, and what has worked for me for so long isn't producing results so I'm grasping for ideas. Thanks for the information though, I'm just going to keep at it and hope for the best.

It's best to use grams for a food scale. In any case, if you truly are weighing all of your food, then it most likely comes down to the exercise calories. Having an open diary would assist us in helping you more, but if you don't want to do that could you provide an average calorie consumption, calorie burns, etc.? Because earlier you said you eat approximately 1200 calories per day, but if you have "cheat" days or some days that are much higher, you could be wiping out your deficit.

@ohboyitskris, what is your weight now, and your goal weight? Height?
What is your activity level? How are you counting and eating back exercise?

I ask because my last 5 were going from 110 to 105 and it took, probably, 4 month. I ate 1200 plus 150-200 for each hour cardio.

    Cheers, h.

I don't have cheat days, and if I do it's on a day where I've worked out and I only eat no more than 50% of calories burned. When I first started working out 2 months ago I ate majority of my burned calories but that only lasted a week when I wasn't seeing results and found out that I probably wouldn't see results if I kept doing that. So I try not to eat my exercise calories and if I do it's no more than 20%. I'm 5'7", I weigh 135 and my goal weight is 130 currently but ultimately 125 (if that makes sense haha).

Can you make your diary public.. You'll get more detailed advice instead of guessing games.

I disagree..if you're eating 1200 calories that is hardly your maintenance amount. You're at a plateau and many people break through by eating more.. or flexing their calories from day to day.. or doing a fasting routine..or switching up exercise.

Those 5-10 are just vanity pounds... You take em or leave em... At 5'7" you are at a fabulous weight with 135... Either way, those vanity pounds just come off really slowly... I like Jillian Michaels' advice on breaking through a plateau: http://www.jillianmichaels.com/fit/lose-weight/break-through-weight-loss-plateau

Thank you!! I just have that mindset of "well if I have been losing weight I can lose more!" I'm happy where I'm at, but I would be okay with continuing the journey and that's why I haven't given up yet. I really like what she had to say though it was encouraging, and I appreciate her take on vanity pounds because its so true.

So I'm not in a situation where I'm trying to rush to break through this plateau because I've really come to terms with being here for a while and thats fine, I just want to know if I am doing something harmful (like not eating enough mainly). I was just curious to see what others have done in this situation and what has been done to break through. I really appreciate all of this input everyone has given me!!

I've seen this article before and while her first point is good, her second one mentions "starvation mode" which is a myth that makes its way around these boards often.

With your stats...I'd take a maintenance break. You are at a healthy weight.

This is my personal experience (may or may not work for you): I did eat more, about 500-600 calories more and broke my plateau. I also realized with the amount of work I put in the gym I could eat way more and still lose weight. Sometimes you can eat more and lose weight given you work hard in the gym. Ultimately it does come down to calories in vs calories out but don't be afraid to try something new if the scales are not moving.

Yeah that one little phrase did turn me off a bit, but I do think if she took that out, her second point advice is still valid and seems to have some validity to it.
