Healthy Eating on the Road

I'm always on the goal it seems there are more times I'm running errands than at home where I can cook healthy meals. Obviously that leaves me stranded at times trying to find healthy options fast.. I thought about maybe keeping trail mix or some other snacks in the car at all times for emergencies. Does anyone have suggestions/tips for this?

Man this is a huge concern for many of us. Over a year ago I started eating very low carb to fix some health concerns. Nuts in the car works well. I keep some everywhere.

I recently learned McDonald's has breakfast all day long. Their 'round eggs' (not the square ones) are cooked fresh from the shell in real butter. While their sausage patty has some added sugar it is free of grains so I get that with a senior coffee and use 7 cups of their half and half creamer per cup. Locally the eggs and sausage are $0.99 each.

Captain D's has a side salad for $2.09 and to better meet my macro I use their real sour cream instead a typical dressing.

More and more fast food places are open to fixing and selling us what we want to buy.

Yup, I always have something with me. It could be trail mix, pre-mixed protein shake, an apple, or a protein bar. I have a travel bag I grab on the way out the door so I keep it fresh (like the apple). It also carries lip balm, dental floss, a shopping bag, nail file, kleenex, and a charger. You know. A grandma bag.

Prepare your food ahead of time or order mcdonalds with no bread, or stop at walmart and buy those salads, bring cans of tuna it sucks but you have to just be uncomfortably hungry on the road smh nuts and raspberries work

Lots of grocery stores have delis with to-go food nowadays. Some of it isn't that unhealthy. You can get premade salads and turkey sandwiches and stuff. Depending in where you go, son even have fresh sushi! Just make sure not to put the whole dressing container in the salad or to scrape some of the mayo off the sandwich. You can also (obviously) get some fresh fruit or veggies while you're there. Baby carrots and apples travel well. So do nuts and dried fruits. If you bring a mini cooler with you, you could even get some greek yogurt cups.

Great advice. I love the zipper pouches with nonperishables in the trunk. I'm at a point that fast food grosses me out right now but I didn't think of wraps and sandwiches at the market much better, faster alternative.

You can't entirely cross fast food off as unhealthy and gross. Even places like Wendy's and Mcdonalds have options that fit most fitness goals. Wendy's serves fresh baked potatoes and side salads that be combined to make a filling, low calorie meal. Mcdonalds has oatmeal and snack wraps. Places like Panera Bread and Chipotle have even more options. Yeah, you can also get really high calorie foods at all of these places, but looking at their nutrition info in your smartphone before you order should allow you to pick out something tasty that still fits your goals.

You could also try the Veggie Delite sandwich at Subway. It's actually my favorite!

I do know there at some healthier options but I was at a McDonald's about a month ago and there was a sign in the winds that said the food sold there was known to cause cancer. I'm sure it's just a liability thing but it just turned me off to fast food. I do still love places like Panera and Cornee Bakery even Starbucks sandwiches are ok but the burger and Del Tacos are just not on my radar right now

I love the salads at wendy's. Panera's soups and sandwiches are awesome. Sometimes when I'm on the go I will just duck into a grocery store and get sushi or veggies and hummus.
