Hi Guys,
I've joined the gym this week. I used to gym regularly before I had my daughter. Prior to joining the gym, I had been running outside every morning and had been steadily losing weight. This week I have been doing long runs on the treadmill along with a ciruits class and a couple of spin classes. I weighed myself today and I have put on 8 lbs!! My clothes don't feel tighter - if anything I've had to pull the cord tighter on my gym trousers!
I haven't changed any eating habits as to what I was eating before and was losing weight - is there any way the upscale of workouts could have made me put on weight? I've been very sore after spin classes and circuits class - is there anyway that this would warrant such a rapid weight gain?!

Are you weighing on the same scale at the same time of day (morning after using the bathroom)?
Usually when we start working out our muscles retain water to repair themselves. Generally that's not 8 pounds, more like 4 or 5. Have you been logging food accurately and using a food scale? Have you also increased sodium or carbs?0 -
I started strength training Oct 29, dropped three pounds post-menstrually, gained seven pounds by Nov 10, stopped strength training due to a cold, and lost five pounds in two days.
Since I started back at the gym Nov 17, my weight has been fluctuating up and down about a pound. I'm expected a post-menstrual whoosh next week.
I hear the "new exercise water weight" goes away in about four weeks.0
