You said you're walking more, perhaps your weight gain is part of muscle repair. I did an extra mile and a half yesterday and I"m feeling a bit swollen and am a pound heavier today.

    No

I don't understand the "no". The poster you are quotig seems to be saying that after ramping up one's fitness routine, one can get heavier from a temporary water retention related to muscle repair. I have seen this claimed often by experienced athletes on here. Why couldn't, according to you, OP's weight gain be temporary water retention related to myscle repair?

I agree that it's best to qualify a no because it adds to the conversation.

Water retention does happen when we ramp up the exercise, especially with weight lifting. I can retain water if I am running harder, weight lifting, or doing more intense exercise in general, but I've not happen with walks, and I walk pretty briskly. A lot of it would depend on the intensity of the walk and probably other factors.

I disagree with the person who said no because there is not yet enough information to make any assessment, such as intensity of walk or whether it was hills or flat lands.

In fact, it could be water retention for a variety of reasons, including increased carbs, TOM, stress, anything.

Or, the OP could simply be eating more than she realizes.

A few weeks is not enough time for any of us to be saying yes or no, and not enough information is provided. All we can add is suggestions of what can be going on.

It is very unlikely to be from walking, but there are so many other factors that can cause water retention that it could very well be from that. As others have mentioned, sodium, time of month, amount of food in your system etc can cause a gain. That's why most people in maintenance have around a 3 to 5 pound range that they maintain in. (I am maintaining between 131.8 and 134.8 for example)

Yep. My maintenance is about 139 to 142. Fine by me. :)
