Why does celebration almost always equal food?

And really good (or really BAD, depending on your perspective) food?

I got some good news today -- looks like I'm getting the job & promotion I was hoping for. I'm very excited!

Except for the part where everyone is going to want to give me cake, and ice cream, and.... all kinds of other bad stuff, and I'm going to end up sitting and watching them eat it. I'm at the cottage with my extended family the next 2 weeks, and it's likely to be one big celebration. Meaning one big feast.

I can resist anything, except temptation....

Why would you watch them eat? Just eat what you want and they eat what they want. Problem solved.

Deeply routed tradition going back thousands of years...probably to the beginning of our time. My issue isn't so much the food...it's the beer.

I would say everything in moderation ..if we have a birthday party at the office.. I have a tiny piece of cake ..or maybe I will have a little more for lunch but then I just have less for dinner..or plan ahead of time to fit it into my day...

Just because everyone else is stuffing their face with crap does not mean that you have to....
