Sometimes when I see people that are small and petite like I am, and they are younger than me, and they have been told that short people can only eat 1100 calories (or some very low number), I will share my stats and what I eat, as part of explaining that it is not a universal rule that petite women have to eat a very small amount. These tend to be the only threads I can help with. Those and threads by people that have 10 pounds or less to lose (the last 5 "vanity" pounds people).

I started on these boards when there were just a few of us! A long time ago. The boards have changed so much since. I try to just stay as positive as possible and ignore the smart *kitten* that are out there being rude (and lately, there are a lot of them).

It's a message board, with lots of people. Behind computers. It's gonna happen.

I agree that people generally have good intentions, but simply regurgitating blanket misinformed statements doesn't help anyone.

    agreed!!! :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

    Great post, OP! Agreed.

Sometimes I get tired of seeing the same topics posted, so I don't read them. Discussion forums need people asking repeat questions or bringing up repeat topics or the forum would just die.

1100 calories??? WHAAAAT! I do 1600-2000 depending on the month. 1600 to cut for summer and 2000 when I am building muscle. A woman should NOT go under 1200. Thats crazy.

Yep. This forum isn't any different than any other that I've been on over the past however many years since the internet got going. A lot of redundant threads, a lot people who don't use the search function, a lot of veterans who are frustrated, a lot of newbies who are just trying to learn something, a lot of nice people, a lot of snarky responses... on and on and on...does anybody really think this is going to change? It's really just a microcosm of life in general.

There is something that works everytime.. Find an exercise you like and do it. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
Get enough sleep.. Find more exercises you like and add those, find more fruits and vegetables.. You are so tired
from the exercise you sleep great.
You guys must be pulling my leg.

Agreed but as the saying goes 'If you think you're too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a closed room with a mosquito'. African proverb.

I aggree, I think sometimes all the veterans forget that new people actually don't know and just because a forum topic has been beaten to death it is probably still a new concept to someone else. I try to give the advice that I would've wanted starting out and if the topic gets out of hand just don't go back to it.

New people can always use the Search feature before posting the same topics over and over as well.. ya know.. like the opposite.

in a perfect world everyone would go looking for previous topics, but reality is that people come to the forums and just ask their question. It's just how 90% of people are (not just here but on every forum). I like to look things up myself but I get that most people don't and they would prefer to ask the question rather than searching

and just because a question has been asked and answered a millions times, this is still the first time that the new person is asking it and they still deserve a non snarky answer :)

Not everyone that is on the site is computer smart enough to even know how to do a search...so doing a search on a site can be something that is overlooked easily, What is the harm in people in asking something someone else has asked in the past, maybe there is new and better in formation out there or available and..as someone else pointed out...the repeat questions keep the boards going.

Actually, the veterans get frustrated because they give a perfectly legit and comprehensive answer to a question but are ignored because some noob responds with a bunch of crap, but that crap is more in line with what the OP wants to here...but not doesn't really do **** for the OP in terms of their goals. That's generally when the veterans go off.

Exactly. I didn't realize there was a search feature when I started using the forums. It's sometimes easier to just post a question and get advice for your specific situation. But again, the problem is the advice that is given is often vague, confusing, or just plain wrong. I guess there's no real way to "police" this. I think OP was just trying to make people more aware of what they are saying, especially to newbies who don't know better and get lost in the sea of (mis)information.
