Hey ya'll,

So a little tip I learned from my young adults with eating disorders support group the other day....

Because I've been restricting myself for so long and the disease has taken away my ability to know when I'm hungry and when I'm full, I never know how much food is the right amount of food. One of the girls offered me a little tip when I'm serving myself: Imagine you are preparing a plate of food for a child that you are babysitting or taking care of for the day. What amount of food would you give them and how would you advise them to eat? Then take that same logic and apply it to your portions.

This is very helpful for someone who really has no idea what normal portions are anymore!

Or you could learn what a portion size is for the foods you typically eat because the reason most of us here are overweight is that our distorted version of a portion is larger than waht we should be eating.

I agree with Barnum... because you should be eating a lot more than a child's size portion.

Or you could cheat and buy the diet plate which is like a little pie chart so you know not to go above the height of it or outside the boundaries for each food group! it's ace!

Do you know those plates ppl use at a picnic with three diff sections.... your portion sizes should go like this...

    Big section-Greens leafy veggies

    Smaller Section- Startches or carbs

Other Smaller section- Protein or meats

You can pile as much as you can fit in the large section but keep the others as they are...

Remember 3 oz of protein is about as big as a deck of cards...
