Fitbit not showing heart rate

Bought a fitbit yesterday the hr charge everything works great but for some reason my heart rate isn't showing up on the watch nor the app. I worn it all day at work as well as at the gym today but it still doesn't show. Its popped up like once or twice but that's about it. Any suggestions? Also looking to add some friends on there thanks.

    Try wearing it a little higher on your wrist, about an inch or so above your wrist bones is recommended, and make sure that it is snug (not tight) fit. For exercise, move it even higher up the wrist and make sure it is a little tighter.

    Edited to add: if that doesn't work, take it back and exchange for another one.
