Middle of night

So I am recovering from some diet caloric restrictions I put on myself and am slowly but surely upping my calories and certain macros etc. The past 2 to 3 weeks essentially every night I have been waking up at 3 to 4am and sometimes several times between that gap and my body feels like it is starving and like tonight, I go to bed actually full because I have been trying to save alot of my calories for later in day, but even after that I wake up at that time and my mind goes blank and I get up and eat. A few times I was more mindful and tried to ignore it but usually always get up. Tonight I made half a serving of oatmeal and berries but then an hour later I was up again and had 1.5 servings of smart pop popcorn. So this totals around 330 to 350 calories already now for the day. Decent amount of fiber in the two to keep me full likely until lunch and beyond but I am TIRED OF wasting my calories at this dumb time, losing lots of sleep, and just this entire cycle. I am glad I am not actually binge eating at this time but I want to know why this is happening and how I can successfully stop it :(

I do that when I have higher carb foods. The higher carbs spike my blood sugar and the ups and downs put me into a starve/eat cycle. I went very low carb and that stopped. It may not be that at all and eating low carb doesn't guarantee blood sugar spikes will stop, but when I read your post, I recognized it as a problem I've fought.

Also, don't be afraid to talk to your doctor or a therapist about night eating. The night eating may just be a result of a severely disrupted sleep cycle, which can be treated.

From other posts, it sounds like you have a lot going on right now. I would discuss this with your treatment team, they need to know this is going on, and they will be able to best help you with it. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I guess I was more so curious than anything if anyone has similar experiences with this night issue and how they combat it.

I used to experience something similar years ago when I was first beginning treatment, and it did require intervention from my team. Initially it was a huge lifestyle change that caused me a lot of anxiety, and up until that point my diet was terrible (not eating enough and the food I ate was nutritionally void), so I had a lot of adjustments to get used to. My doctors put me on anxiety medication and sleep medication, which helped until I got adjusted.
