My Anti-NSV

I love the NSV thread, but this morning I had the opposite of a NSV. I recently bought a pair of tights, which were available in three sizes: A, B, and Q (Queen). I bought a size "B," which was supposed to go from 100 - 165 lbs. I'm currently about 130 but pear shaped so figured I should be safe. I tried putting them on this morning and it was a no-go. These tights are going to be going to my 10-year-old daughter. So frustrating!! I do NOT want to have to buy a size Q, but it looks like I'm going to have to. :( Does anybody else have similar situations that arose when you were to what you thought was a decent weight? Please tell me I'm not alone.

Did you get the right length? If it fit me and looked good on me size does not matter. No one is going to know you are wearing queen size.

Congrats on your great weight loss!!

There were no length options. They were in the nylon section. I don't think I've ever seen length options in nylons, either. I know I should be more concerned about the fit than the actual size, but I am in revolt at the thought of having to buy Queen size. I worked so hard to get out of that! I don't feel like I'm queen-sized anymore.

Oh, wait, the chart did have lengths, along with weights, but you can't buy nylons specially made for short people. I think I was within the height/weight ratio for the size I bought.

I haven't bought hose for years but I thought they were sold by your height and weight. Check the label on the inside at the waistband or maybe they were mis-marked.

Or try a different brand (maybe at a higher quality store). Somethings not right with the tights, not you!

How did you know I was in a cheapo store?! Do you have any recommendations for a higher quality brand?

Tights are like that for me all the time, and I'm a healthy weight with really tiny legs and wide hips. I have yet to find any that fit me well enough to use regularly. At 5'9", I automatically get the biggest size, yet they still fit wonky. So it's not just you.

Try a department store, like Macy's. I wouldn't want to buy the Q either. Maybe they were mismarked.

Who cares what the size is? Get tights/nylons that fit.

Eh. Tights are crazy. I can wear an A but man sometimes I'm tempted to get a Q for comfort.

I recently bought a pair of stockings from a discount department store. They were originally like 50 dollar stockings and they were on sale for 25. I know that still sounds crazy but I was in a pickle. Let me tell you...They were heaven. Definitely check out some better stockings.

I am 5' 4", and even when I was 102 pounds I bought the "B" size because the A's were uncomfortably tight. I actually started wearing thigh-highs because I got tired of not being able to breathe when wearing nylons.

    Interesting...I'm 5'4", 130 and wear A's. Stockings stink.

I'm apple shaped, and have a bit of a belly that is hard to squish into the smaller sizes. My legs are like matchsticks though, it's just when I get to the belly that it gets uncomfortable.

Hehe. That is why. We are opposite. I hate when they cut at the tummy. I refuse to wear control top because of the years of squeezing into them when I was heavy.

Even as a very fit highschooler, I had size B's that would be extremely tight and uncomfortable. I think the quality control is bad with various inexpensive brands of hosiery! The next size up was a Q, and here I was young and fit and slim, etc. That's just silly that I'd have to wear a Queen, lol. I'm a bit taller than you (5'6") but no Amazon or anything ;)

I still get tights that I wear in winter that are super tight. But nowadays they are also not quite long enough, so they don't like to stay up over my whole bum. I seriously have to wear a pair of panties over them to keep them up, lol. The really expensive ones are so nice and don't do that.

Different brands run larger and some run smaller. The ones at the Walgreen fits me perfectly according to the label but if I buy DKNY with the same size/weight I can't get them over my knees! I think it also depends on the thickness. If they are thicker you will need to buy quite a couple sizes bigger than thinner ones.

Stocking sizing is whacky. I don't think that I have ever been on the chart for the kind that you can buy in the grocery store, but can somehow still fit into the smallest size.

    I recommend
    1. Thigh-highs...so much more comfy and easy to fit
    2. This company...they have good descriptions of fit and are very helpful. sockdreams.com/

I'm also 5'4" and 130. They always go up my legs with no problems, the problem is my butt.

I've never tried thigh-highs because I just don't see how they stay up. Maybe I'll give them a try. And I'll definitely take a look at sockdreams. Thanks!

Even at my lightest weight as an adult (5'6" and 118 lbs) ... I wore Queen-sized pantyhose/tights. I think it has something to do with my hips, and the fact that I've got next to no torso ... I'm all legs.

I have tried the "Talls" and "X-Tall" ... but they don't work for me either.

I am 5'10. Even at my lowest at 132 I wore queen size. Just more comfortable! Don't worry about the size. It is how you feel.

Hanes makes petites in their Silk Reflections line. They are the only stockings I've ever worn that fit, most come all the way up to my bra band. I don't know if they have tights in petites, I've never looked for them.

I'm 5'6" with long legs & I always had to buy big tights. Wearing the crotch mid-thigh bummed my high...
Invest in wolfords and rest assured they will fit as sized!

Whoa, I didn't know leggings got that expensive! And $110 for a tank top! I don't know if I want to spend that kind of money, but I've bookmarked their site in case I get desperate.

Me too! I always have "better" things to spend money on than myself- like my four kids and husband.

I've never heard of them. It doesn't look like we have any around here. In my neck of the woods, Century 21 is only a real estate company. I checked their site but Wolfords isn't listed as an available brand. Is Wolfords the actual brand, or the parent company?

Me too. I have big quads, always have. I go to welovecolors dot com and get tights or leggings there because they have folks try them on and they post pictures.... "regular" and plus size, and they give detailed reviews about the fit. So you know what size you should get, maybe plus in certain styles even if you are not plus sized.
