Walking tires me out

I'm 43 and have no problem getting in 25,000 steps every day.
I'd be getting a full check up at the doctor if I were you OP.0 -
I think it depends on whether you are trying to walk like 3 miles at once. Sedentary folks going to miles-long walks can certainly be tiring at first! I always agree with getting regular blood checks, but if you are lumping miles together, I think the tiredness and soreness is pretty normal at first.
[I have ridiculously sensitive tendons and ligaments and try to avoid walking long amounts without a break. I do much better moving in other ways, like dancing where I don't do the same motion so repetitively. Or short sprinting, which I added and love! So remember that you can dance, skip, hop and jump, too Moving more is the main point, imho.]0 -
Can one go from couch to running a marathon in a day? Hmm, the body needs conditioning and training to increase physical endurance you say?? What a novel concept0

To add I only averaged 3k steps before I got my fitbit. Now I can easily hit 14k if I keep my eyes on the prize.0

I think you should see a doctor, and get detailed blood work done. 3000 - 7500 steps is not extradordinarily active for a person your age and weight, and shouldn't be exhausting you the way you say it is. That coupled with being sore afterward is concerning. Make an appointment so you know for certain what is going on. Good luck!0

What are you actually trying to say?
Do you think 3000 steps is *normally* difficult and exhausting for someone with only 8 lbs to lose?
It does suggest that the OP should contact a doctor. Not that it is a conditioning issue.0 -

OP is 30 years young
Not extreme obese or overweight ( guessing this by the amount she want to lose 8lbs)
Only out of shape she says
being tired exhausted of only 3K steps is not normal
So we are talking not about running marathons here

She didn't say that 3000 was exhausting. It's when she adds on the new extra 4500 that that happens.

^^^True^^^
Walking is the easiest of easy exercises. I'm 43, unfit and can walk 20kms a day. I don't get sore or exhausted or even have any rest days, I do this 7 days a week.
I can understand a morbidly obese person maybe struggling, but not a young normal weight person.0 -

Still shouldn't be an issue. My 86 yo mother in law walks 3-4 miles a day for exercise (including days she does her water aerobics) plus walking for "normal" activities.
A young, non-obese person should not have an issue walking several miles at a time.
OP, please see a doctor.0 -

Yay! I remember when you were struggling with just a few thousand a day.
Someone mentioned a connection to sleep. I definitely notice that when my sleep is severely interrupted, I have a very hard time getting enough steps the next day. Normally, 10,000 is a breeze for me.0 -

HaHa I was woefully inactive before I got my fitbit. This walking thing thing has turned into somewhat of an addiction!
I'm walking right now as I'm typing this0 -
Well my bloodwork is fine, I actually have 30 pounds to lose, and I can walk 7500 steps a day now and more without feeling tired/sore/exhausted.0

Great job! Keep it up and you will see more! I got a jawbone after Christmas. I was amazed at how few steps I actually take when I don't have an exercise day or a run. I am also a massage therapist and have to have wrists clear for work so there is a 5-8hr stretch each day I cannot wear it but my arms move way more than my legs in that job anyway. I love the days I am not at work and can see my progress. A 4 mile run plus my regular activities puts me over my 10000 goal. A great feeling!0

Up your steps gradually. Doing 3000 now? Aim for 4000. When you can do that comfortably, add another 1000 to it. Giving yourself time to get used to extra exercise makes it easier to stick with it.
I read a 'walking plan' from a health site, can't remember which one, but the plan was, add 500 steps every day to the day before, and before you know it, you'll be walking 10,000 steps a day.
I tried it, but I only counted the steps in my purposeful walk, not all day. I was doing pretty good, in three weeks, I was up to 8000 steps. Then I got sick, and now I have to kinda start over.
Do what you can.0 -
3,000 steps is about 1.5 miles. When I first started, I needed multiple rest stops to walk that far. I was 59 yo and in horrible shape. I built up to 7500 (about 3.5 miles) over a period of several months. Now I do close to 10,000 most days at a rapid pace without any stops.0
