So I drink water, hot tea, one cup of coffee with splenda and sugar free creamer, and diet dr pepper (had to fill my sweet tooth). What out of those liquids can I count towards my water intake for the day???

All of them, even fruit and vegetables.

Just water - the other things you have listed contain caffeine which dehydrates you.

All of them... but I never use Dr Pepper, Mt Dew as a water consumption when I log water in MFP.. I actually log the Dr Pepper (for example) in the diary for me this adds to sodium and potassium in my diary (reports).. I also log the creamer and the sugar separately as this add calories and carbs.

At the end of the day, I see that I drank x amount of water, tea, coffee, and the Dr. Pepper is listed on my diary and I can say I drank x ounces of liquid at the end of the day..

    No.

I mean yes caffeine does have a diuretic/dehydrating effect, but not so much that it eliminates the water contained in whatever drink you're consuming.

All of them. Caffeine does not magically make all the water in your caffeinated drinks evaporate from your body. It is an extremely mild diuretic, and if you drank several cups of coffee quickly in a row, you would see a mild increase in urine output. However, if you drink caffeine regularly, then you also become habituated to all of its affects, including the diuretic effect, so you'd have to suddenly drink alot more of it to see any noticeable effect at all. The idea that it "doesn't count" if it has caffeine in it is just another of those womens' magazine myths that needs to die a horrible screaming death.

I would just log water as water intake. Any other drinks I just log as separate things.

    All of them.

The contention that caffeinated beverages cause dehydration was disproven long ago.

    Why log water/drinks at all?
If you aren't dehydrated then you are getting enough.

I log every other drink with its respective meal or snack, and I log only water itself at the bottom as water drunk. The others count as liquids, but I'm not going to log them twice.

All of it. The caffeine in drinks is not enough to cancel out the hydrating effects of the water.

I just log water as water, but when I'm drinking other stuff I consider 4-6 glasses good enough.

If caffeinated drinks only dehydrated you, then i must be a miracle person as my pee got lighter (indicating I was hydrated) in color after downing an entire 2L bottle of soda yesterday and remained light well into the next day.

I also don't bother to log water, as I do not have an issue with not getting enough or with getting too much. I log food because I do have an issue with getting too many calories and sometimes not enough protein.

I think it is a personal choice. I have logged only water, when I was trying to drink more of it as opposed to other things this summer. I use the pee chart to gauge hydration. MFP is a tool, use it how it best helps you.

That's my line of thinking with water, I log coke and coffee and things with calories, but that's for calories not the water content.

I find it odd seeing people posting images of what I have to assume is a 5-6L jug full of water, with times and motivational messages written down the bottle.

If you need motivational messages to drink then maybe you have had enough.

But as far as I'm aware if it has water in it then it counts as water, coke, milk, fruit, veg, I assume mud pies made by your 2 year old, frozen mint peas etc etc etc

I don't track water, and I barely drink any. Most days maybe .5 of a cup. Water from all sources counts, or I'd be dead by now :D

Post-bariatric patients, because of our smaller stomachs, are sternly advised to track our water intake to make sure we don't get dehydrated. But I still don't track. I do, however, start my day with a glass of water, have a tea when I get to work, finish 500 ml during the day, and another glass in the evening.
