Discrepancies amongst programs

I learned something new today. I bought a garmin vivoactive over the weekend and a heart rate monitor. I had been using mapmyride to log distance and calories, but have not been making progress. One of my MFP friends and several others had commented that mapmyride over estimated calories burned. I went for a bike ride today on a regular route, wearing my heart rate monitor and using the garmin gps. The gps and time were about equal (7.65 miles, 38-39 minutes). BUT!!!!! the calories for mapmyride have hovered around 860 calories burned for that ride. Using the heart rate monitor and garmin, my calories burned were only 269... that is a HUGE difference. I have been at the same weight for about a year, going up and down just a bit. I had wondered why given the activity level. I haven't sufficiently cut calories. Now that I am educated a bit more (though it cost me money), I hope to see a turn around.
