I was wondering how much I should eat then if I burn that much? I'm a total gym rat and love working out I will admit the gym is like my life.

Set MFP to how much you want to lose and sedentary. Enter 75% your exercise daily. Eat the number it gives you.
    OR
Set MFP to how much you want to eat and active (maybe very active depending on the duration and intensity of the exercise). Eat what it gives you and don't add exercise back in (already accounted for).

If you are maintaining, set weight loss to 0.

You have another thread complaining about hypoglycemia, your current net intake doesn't support you activity level in a healthy manner, but you want to burn 1000 cals now?

Me too, although I can't give you a straight answer, if you're honestly burning 1000 calories in the gym, I would suggest:

1800/2000 calories a day If you're losing weight.
    2800/3000 calories a day if you're maintaining.

Okay I was just wondering. And wanted to know an estimated amount

I don't know if I do or not. I was thinking maybe it could be from being a vegetarian and not eating enough per day. I already burn a bit over 1000

Honestly looking at your exercise log, it doesn't look like you're burning as many calories as you think, 1/2 at best (although that seems high too) but no where near 1000.

I am curious though as to how you're burning that much a day, it is possible, but would require around 2-3 hours of vigorous cardio a day.

i think it's likely you are overestimating your calorie burns from exercise...i'm a fitness geek, but 1,000 calories day in and day out would be a pretty excessive exercise regimen, particularly if you're not taking rest days or eating properly. you're talking a good 2-3 hours daily of fairly vigorous cardio work.

if you train like an athlete you have to eat like one too.
  • I'm not overestimating anything. I do vigorous daily cardio 3 sometimes more a day.

I do think your calories burned are a little too high as well. If you are already thin I don't think you would burn 195 calories in 20 min on the elliptical. I'm 180 pounds and I wouldn't even burn that much unless I was doing HITT

But to answer your question you should be eating back at least half.

3+ times per DAY? How long is each session? That seems excessive, but I won't comment more until you clarify, if you'd like to.

I burn right about 1000 cals a day according to the app I use. I figure it is a high estimate so I keep that in mind. I eat about 1900 cal a day or so on average, sometimes more sometimes less. I wouldn't say I'm losing a ton of weight now but I am gaining muscle tone and reducing fat much quicker this way. The app I use bases its calorie burn on heart rate, and I wear an HRM strap while on my Bowflex Trainer. Takes me about an hour to burn that much on the thing. The built in calorie counter on the machine doesn't care about your heart rate and it indicates about 550-600 cals during that hour. Which is more accurate? Probably an average of the two. It's really tough to be sure about your calorie burn, and anyone who burns 1000 a day is probably burning somewhere between half and three quarters of that estimate. I figure this puts me at somewhere around a 400 calorie a day deficit or more depending on what else I do throughout the day. I've lost most of the weight I wanted to lose this year, so I am working on body fat now as in trying to re-shape things the way I want. Gonna take time and much effort.

All I can say is that if you shoot for a 1000 calorie a day burn, it's going to be tough, and you'll probably have to go over that to actually manage 1000 calories.

the cooking walking is already part of your daily activity.

ya know, you could put your stats and goals in this or any other calculator...and ya know...let the calculator calculate how many calories you would need...that's kind of what these calculators do. nobody is going to be able to tell you how many calories you would need without knowing way more information than you provided...

Your diary already shows you undereating for your logged level of activity. Increasing your activity without substantially increasing your intake is not a wise course of action.

I guess I like hearing outside options rather than limiting myself to just the caculator.

Between your two threads, I see issues. You've described viewing cardio exercise similarly to a drug, now finally concede that you're already not eating enough to fuel your activities, yet keep wanting to burn more. The combination does not paint a healthy picture.

A 1000 calorie net burn is an about 9 mile run for a 180 pound person ... about 12 miles for a 135 pound person. Doing that daily requires a long time to train up to and proper fueling. Neither of which are evident in your posts.
