Scary thing to deal with when your motivated and achieving results. I recently injured my back in same spot doing the same thing the first time I got injured. (picking a dumbbell up while sitting down). The first time, the muscle was irritated for a week. A month past and I thought all was well so I hit the gym again. About two weeks in the same exact thing happen. Should I let it heal and work out light? It healed the first time I think its a lot weaker now though.

Don't play around with the lower back. I tweaked my back a little bit, didn't take time to recover, and I'm still dealing with it 7 months later.

If anything, avoid doing movements that require you to lift weight while bent over.

Right under the shoulder blade I felt it burn for like 5 seconds and it went away. The only thing that scares me is it was twice same place same pain.

Sounds obvious but always use correct form. Perhaps pick up the dumbell before sitting down, bend at the knees and all that. Thats basic workplace safety. I screwed up my back big time picking up a 2 oz package in a former life as a postal worker. I was twisted a bit, couldn't bend at the knees, and it was 7 hours into a day of working packages, so muscle fatigue was a factor. Bulged a disc. I was in my late 20's then, in my late 40's now. What ExRemake said, don't mess around with your back.

Probably a pinched nerve, hopefully simple ergonomics will help.

As others have said, don't mess around with your back. Finally getting back into loading up squats and deads 7 months after injuring myself. It's been a lesson in patience.
