Have you had trouble building muscle or thought it just wasn't gonna happen? What did you do that turned it around?

    Building muscle is slow

demands either bulking and cutting or recomp - both slow

watch your protein intake - ensure you're hitting adequate minimums
make sure your training is progressive and you have adequate rest days

check out the gains forum - there's lots of good advice in there

I never thought I couldn't build muscle, I just knew it would take time.....consistency works  I started a recomp 4 months ago and am seeing good progress already and defined muscles especially in my legs and arms which I'm very happy about

I used to find it ridiculously easy and fast in my teens and 20's.
    Fairly easy in my 30's
Not so easy in my 50's.....

What turned it round was training harder (predominant focus on big compound lifts) and more often. Having a gym at work and simply prioritising my time made a big difference.

Each and every gym session I try to lift a bit heavier (progressive overload). Seems to work for me. Will work for anyone.

The OP's profile says he's 48. Realistically, with hard work, gaining 8-12 pounds of muscle in a year would be considered very good. It takes time but it's worth it.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'm on track, I track my workouts & as lifting gets easier I increase my weight, usually 5 lbs at a time. For me, I think the big shift for me should be the compound lifts. I'm gonna keep at it, doing better than sitting on the couch!
