Keep doing Jillian! I love her dvds too. My doc told me that I am pretty much training for a marathon and want to be in the best shape possible. The more fit, the easier pregnancy and birth will be. I am working out 5 times a week, lots or cardiovascular and core. I was about 30 pounds overweight pre-pregnacy, and have not gained any weight yet which is good for 16 weeks. It's not from the excise though, it's from eating right. I have gestational diabetes and have to balance my meals and cut out processed sugar (hints the app). Not so hard to to do when you feel nauseous all the time, and have the guilt that you want your baby to be healthy. You also need you partner and friends' support. No one is allowed to give me sugar or I will turn into a gremlin :)

General rule of thumb is that you can continue doing your normal exercises. However, you shouldn't start new exercises. This might also include increasing exercise or progressive loads too.

As for losing weight while pregnant, it's generally not recommended. There are a few exceptions, all of which should be done under doctor's care and approval.

Make sure you find a doctor that will support you in your goals. My second pregnancy I found a new doctor, a runner, who was very encouraging and supportive. Then have an honest discussion with them.

following the gestational diabetes diet is a great way to learn about macros and portion control. I don't think you should try to loose weight nut focus on learning healthy eating and cooking.

Some exercises will be ok during the early parts of pregnancy but not the latter. I think you aren't supposed to do anything lying on your back. Push ups are pretty hard to do with a big baby belly you don't want to squish during the end of pregnancy.

    But I'm no doctor.

I'm currently pregnant, and I was cleared to continue all of my normal exercises except for "bouncing/jumping" type movements and heavy weights. I've been mainly sticking with jogging, push ups, and squats, but I'm thinking of seeing how well I handle my Jillian Michaels' DVDs with modified movements.

    Good luck, and congrats!

To add in, my doctor suggested that I not lift over my head ( meaning lifting the weight over my head) so I could lift but never reach up over my head while lifting. definitely talk to your doctor about all of this.

Most of what you are already doing will be fine as long as you are not pushing any harder than you currently do. Lots can be altered. Push-ups with your hands on the wall or a bench to accommodate for the tummy. Clear everything with your health care team of course.

If your doctor says its ok and you can do it....then do it! Really you can do anything you are comfortable with. And its healthy for you and the baby. And not to mention helps with labor, weight gain and recovery after ;)
