Can't seem to get around myself... vent

I had been doing really good until about a year ago. I had lost 40 lbs over about 6 months. Then my 2 adult stepsons moved in with us and they bring so much junk in the house it's nuts. I have no willpower after months of seeing everbody eating candy cookies and chips and fast food. Now my over the road trucker husband is home everynight which has just compounded the problem. I am the only one in the house that has a weight issue after having 4 kids. I seem to be able to keep the 30-40lbs (My weight seems go up and down in that 10lb range) off but I just can't seem to get past it with all of the crap in the house. Having hubby home all the time seems to just make it worse. He knows I can cook and bake like nobody's business and well he wants fresh bread pies cookies foods with rich cream sauces lots of food with beef and fatty cuts of pork.
So I am trying the one thing that I never wanted to do which is to make 2 meals at dinner. Hubby about went through the roof when he thought I was making chicken twice in one weeks until I told him that I was making him tator tot cassarole. It just gets me because in the month that he has been off the road he has lost 10lbs that he really didn't need to lose, His one son that is the same height as him now weighs 150lbs it kills me that a 22yr old man weighs less than me. I guess I just needed to vent my frustrations!!!!! Watching everybody sit in my living room right next to me eatting cookies and ice cream.... Well there is only so much this girl can take!

That's a tough situation. Perhaps you could designate a cupboard for the junk food, that way you never need to go in there? other than that I think you're going to have to find things to distract yourself wtih.. and super super discipline. Be strong!! write down your reasons for doing this and keep them handy!

I have the same problem with my family. My family when they "shop" they love to bring cookies and candies and chips, chips, chips. You just have to look around it, or portion it out so it fits into your meal plan. I have chips just about everyday but I make sure its only a serving size, ect. Cookies, I don't eat them all the time, but when I do, I only eat a serving size as well for a dessert. I usually have to cook different food than my parents because they always make the unhealthiest things possible, maybe you should try doing this as well. I have it especially hard that my parents loooove to go out to eat for fast food, and they always ask me if I want to go, but I try to say no if I know it won't fit into my calories. I know how you feel, my parents bring home munchies galore, and its hard to avoid it. I still have some, I don't say no completely, but small portions of it or the serving size of it. ^^
  • Are they going to freak out if you say they need to make their own food sometimes? Everybody in the house is an adult! If you are trying to be productive and eat healthy, you shouldn't have to cater to their desire for junk food.

I don't know anything about your family dynamic but I think that's reasonable. Especially for your adult stepsons! They are all lucky enough to have someone cooking dinner for them so they can either suck it up or get their own food. I also agree with having some sort of cabinet specific for junk food, and maybe you can find some low cal or healthy desserts. My family loves making fruit juice popsicles. Just pour mango nectar in a popsicle mold - 140 calories or so and it fulfills all my sweet cravings! You can still be satisfied and feeling healthy. I understand the frustration, as my boyfriend eats junk alllll the time. We don't live together so it's not too bad, but whenever we hang out and he hasn't eaten (which is all the time, he sucks at eating on a schedule), he wants to go get fast food or order take out, etc. I try to eat beforehand so I'm not tempted, and it makes me feel good when I'm able to stick to my guns and I see him eating a fast food burger or something, although I'm lucky that I don't really crave that stuff.

The way I see it is that your husband should support your desire to be healthy as it benefits both of you, and your stepsons are old enough to care for themselves if necessary.
