I eat fish, dairy & eggs
I hadn't realised until recently (as I just counted calories) that some days my protein levels are very low 5g per day, at a guess I'd say 5 days 75-100g 2 days <10 what effect will this have on my weight loss ?

What are you eating on the days you get less than 10 grams of protein? Tablespoons of oil and sugar? Even if you just ate veggies and fruit, with no fish, dairy, or eggs, and consumed a reasonable number of calorie, you should be getting more than 10 grams of protein. It would seem as though your logging is not accurate (perhaps you're picking inaccurate entries from the MFP database -- many are user-generated with errors) or you are eating at a dangerously low calorie level.

Does your diet really vary that much from day to day? Any answer that you get here will be very hypothetical. I doubt this question has been studied to the point where any actual research or data exists. But I agree with the above poster that 5g of protein over a 24h period is strikingly low and may reflect an error in logging.

    Can you open your diary?

I haven't logged for sometime now, when I did I only ever looked at calories as I thought those where the most important. Breakfast 2 toast + marmalade, Lunch veggie soup, dinner pasta with tomatoes, peppers, sweetcorn, mushrooms. Drinks black coffee & squash.

I'm sure you're familiar with CICO. With data analysis (which is what you are attempting to do by looking at your protein intake based on food logs) we sometimes use the term GIGO (garbage in garbage out).

In other words, we could hypothetically consider your question if there was decent data. But we are unsure of the validity of the entries you chose back when you used to log and we have no recent entries to consider anyway.

It sounds like your day to day diet was consistent. So it sounds improbable that the 5g protein total it gave you was accurate.

I'm gonna say you're probably not only getting 5 g of protein. Unless you aren't eating like anything, or just eating plain sugar or oil it's would be nearly impossible to do.

Yes, how do you manage to go so low? Are your total calories lower than normal too on those days? Because if I eat my total calorie allotment each day, even a 'low' protein day has 30-50 grams...

If true - and I share others' skepticism - it probably won't affect your weight loss as such, as long as CI < CO. However, you'll likely lose more muscle along with the fat than is necessary, and it's pretty terrible for your strength and health overall.

I'd have to be trying, in order to get that little protein (which I won't because I like being strong & healthy). As an ovo-lacto veg, I'm logging 80-100+g/day without much fuss about it, and have lost 55 pounds since April (almost at goal).

I've been avidly watching my protein intake for a week, still not logging everyday (must try harder) I am using a protein shake to add protein and or fish at the end of the day, something is very different, maybe coincidence, I have got up earlier 3days in a row, but my appetite is shot. No interest in food at all the last few days.
