hey there.

This is my first post. I just hopped on this so ten days ago and just started a gym routine about three weeks ago. I started our @232 and am down to 221 or so. I'm pretty decent at eating good. I been getting meek prep ideas on Instagram started eating tons of veggies. My question is it really important to have rest days or can you just go do cardio on your rest days and then back to strength training/cardio mix the next day ?

Thanks for any help in advance

Is it important to have rest days?

Since you are newbie I would recommend rest days. Once you become a more experienced lifter you can perhaps skip rest days. You can however do cardio on rest days just to get some activity in.

Rest days are important. Both for recovery and to avoid burnout. Try to do at least one rest day a week, if you can't stand to do total rest you can do something really light like yoga or easy bicycling.

Thanks a lot for your advice. Yoga sounds like a good idea. For rest days. I wouldn't say I am a complete rookie. I just can't remember a lot of stuff. I used to weigh like 240 in highschool. Then lost a buncha weight in my early 20s. Got down to 200 or somthing was feeling awesome. Met my wife. Got comfortable had a kid. Next thing I know I'm fat and lazy again. Well I got this job just in August here and it has free access to a gym. It's always dead. Like one or two people. The gym isn't the greatest but it's not bad. Overall I just wanna maximize my results in the hour I workout before work.
