Working retail or as a server?

Hey guys so I worked retail all my life but I wanted to try something new so I got a job as a server at this tex mex restaurant and I'm real excited but nervous that I will be bad at it. Also I only make 4.95 an hour and the rest is through tips. Not really sure how that's gonna work. I wanted to get you guys opinion on what's best and if not working retail was a good idea?
