Why log your water?

What's the point? It makes no difference, right?

Keeping hydrated is important. The whole "8 glasses a day" thing is kind of a myth but it's just another way of staying accountable.

I think it makes people feel more in control. Or something.

Personally, barring a medical issue I see no point in it. To me it just adds to the message of "you can't (and shouldn't) trust your own body signals." I also wonder if feeling the need/desire to log water intake may be somewhat related to the types of behavior that lead to development of eating disorders.

I used to log my water just to make sure I got my 8 glasses. Because I would sometimes go all day without having any water (I survived and thrived on drinking cawwwwfeeeeeee all day.) It took a while for me to get in the habit of drinking more water. I wanted to be able to have most of my daily water already consumed before 6pm otherwise I'd be up peeing all night long. Logging helped me keep on point.

Now I do not log it. I still try to drink at least 40-50 oz of plain water every day (more if I consume a lot of sodium) otherwise I notice I start to retain water and I don't like water weight messing up my actual weight on the scale. LOL.

I doubt that logging water is tied to an eating disorder.

I log it because I'm not always that good at keeping myself hydrated.

I log my water in Fitbit and have a goal of 40 oz/day of plain water. I also drink 1-2 cups of coffee and maybe a diet soda, both of which help keep me hydrated.

If I'm not getting enough fluids, the first thing that starts to be affected is the skin on my face - it gets too dry, and then too oily and I'll have more breakouts. Staying hydrated helps keep that under control.

It doesn't necessarily make a difference for weight loss, but it can make a difference for health.

Did you not make your coffee with water?

I log it because I like to see it. No eating disorder here.

I used to but since I always end up drinking 112 oz a day I don't bother any more.

I log mine because, if I don't, I simply don't remember to drink it. I need to drink a lot of water because I've incorporated a lot more fiber into my diet and need to drink lots of fluids to keep my digestive tract happy. So I log it, and therefore, drink it.

No reason for me--I naturally drink plenty of water and am skeptical that people with water and other beverages available actually let themselves get dehydrated. I suppose if you struggle with cutting back on beverages with calories pushing yourself to drink water instead could be helpful.

I do just because I don't like seeing the "0" in my diary. I am usually really good about drinking plenty of fluids so I don't worry about it, I just log for the completeness.

I don't log either but water also isn't my favorite form of hydration. I'll usually fill my 32 oz nalgene with ice water for my workout and whatever I don't drink during, I drink after. Beyond that I often enjoy a fountain diet coke and/or herbal tea either iced or hot.

Plain water without caffeine - drinking coffee all day long was not good for my stomach or my nerves, lol. When I drink more plain water - I have less of a need for so much coffee. And I feel better when I drink more water than coffee. Or at least, less coffee than an entire pot or even two a day.

I don't. If my pee is lightly colored I assume I'm drinking enough.

I don't need to, I drink crazy amounts of water and herbal tea (upwards of 5 litres a day), but I get that some people don't drink much water or other liquids at all - my husband is one of them. Maybe it could be useful for them.
