At home spinning programs?

I am considering buying a spin bike off Craigslist but I'm not sure I would be able to do it without a decent amount of motivation to push me. I took spin classes years ago and loved them but it's very difficult for me to go to classes now because I have two young children at home and my husband's schedule is not consistent so I can't count on a set day/time for classes. I usually run for my workouts but I want to cross train more and thought spin would be great. Are there spinning DVDs that anyone recommends or anything like that? I would love a Peloton bike that connects to live classes but it's out of my budget.

Check out the Spinervals series (You can find some of them free on youtube https://youtube.com/results?search_query=spinervals

There are also others like this 45 minute interval one https://youtube.com/watch?v=zSFYRiqodvU

Cycling is great x-training for running! Rather than a spinning bike have you considered getting a used road bike and an indoor trainer? Come the spring your can be out on the road!

I have some Spinverals. I've also used random youtube links.
Last winter I signed up for a subscription to the Sufferfest. They sell videos but they also offer a $10 a month subscription that lets you access all their videos. I liked it because you could try them all out and decide whether or not to invest in the videos (it saves money in the long run to own the video).

ETA - This link would probably be more helpful. I think the subscription has to go through an app

A real bike set in a silicone filled turbine is great! Used season is coming up for buying.

Then you can ride outside if you want I nice weather.

I added cycling to my cardio a good while back and it just evolved into an interest in triathlons

There are zillions of videos on YouTube to use with an indoor trainer

You can have good weather days and go hit it. Today was nice and I rode a 50 mile 70 degree day ride...

    Awesome

Thanks for the link! I'll have to check it out. I do have a regular bike that I love but I don't have an indoor trainer. Can you adjust the resistance on a trainer like you can on a spin bike?

I would love to ride outside more often. I have a nice Giant bike that I love but I usually work out in the evenings and with the decreasing sunlight and finding time to get out of the house without the kids, it's a challenge to go on a real ride.

Yes. CycleOps Fluid 2 or the Kinetic Road 2 would be what I recommend. HR monitor, App on your iPhone/Droid that reads the HR monitor - and you can measure your burn rate and target zones.

It depends on the trainer.....a magnetic one you can vary the resistance the fluid ones (like the Kurt Kinetic) automatically adjust, the harder you peddle the more resistance you get (more realistic than spinning bikes)

A question for those that enjoy spinning, as it does sound interesting to me.

Does anyone make any affordable spin bikes that "connect" via wifi so that spinners from all over the globe could compete live? I've seen mention of spin classes where it's done and rates position and such, but not for individual at home stuff. Seems like their could be a market.

Studio Sweat On Demand has great spin videos.....You can download individual videos or pay for an all access pass. They are having a sale right now......http://www.studiosweatondemand.com/getting-started/personal-unlimited-use/

If you have an IPhone or IPad you can download the the Peloton app and stream live and on-demand workouts....they have a 14 day free trial and then it is 12.99 a month.......

I own a Spin Bike and love it! An amazing workout. I have some DVD's I spin to and enjoy.

If I were going to pay for a subscription - no doubt, Studio Sweat On Demand is where I'd spend my money.

Never used an indoor trainer so I can't offer any input on those. Both probably offer you a fantastic workout.

There is Zwift: http://zwift.com/ it's not a dedicated spin bike, but same concept. You just need an indoor trainer and supported device (ant+ powermeter or speed cadence device such as garmin gsc-10)
