Help in-body check at Gym in 3-4 days!!

So I was in Seoul enjoying the fact that I can find NY style pizza and Japanese food and I got this message from my gym. I'm cutting out the refined carbs after today (had some granola cereal in my yogurt) which means telling the lunch ladies at work "no rice" again which they DO NOT understand. I see the worried look on their faces every time and one actually told me in broken English that i'm slim (this was BEFORE I lost 8 kgs... but I am BIG compared to everyone here.) I can't make my gym tonight as I am supposed to go to a Christmas Party (might just be the only one I get this year)... there won't be drinking (it's at a language school) and i'm bringing hummus and peppers. Still nervous about all the American treats people will bring (it's near the military base). Should I just start fasting tomorrow? Last time I crash dieted the weekend before a weigh-in my muscle and fat percentages went down and my trainer warned me about it. He said not to lose anymore muscle.

I'm confused as well. I'm not understanding the importance of the check in, or why if you've done this before, you would do it again. Why not regularly work toward your goals? Are these your goals, or ones set by your trainer?0

Why bother doing the check-ins if all they do is stress you out? Why not just do the "turtle" approach (slow & steady wins the race) and keep going, rather than trying to crash into a "goal" made by a gym (likely just to try and guilt you into going more/buying their products/renewing subscriptions)0

I assume this check in is to measure progress. How does "cheating" help you? If you aren't making progress, you aren't making progress, accept it, address it, and try to fix it.0

And why would you consider "fasting" (man I hate that word. It's starving. Call it what it is), when your trainer specifically told you not to after you crash dieted last time?0

No, don't fast. Establish a regular plan and follow it, day in and day out. I know, it sounds boring and certainly not as dramatic as your past approach, but more effective in the long run.0

Let me rephrase this...I just asking for advice on what to do instead of fast when you have limited time. IE cutting out all the bread and white rice (the latter is served at every meal here). I've been trying to be on a plan- slow and steady - have lost 8-9 kgs ... I met my first goal but the goal of the in-body check / gym is another 10 lbs which I think I can lose. I am still in the "overweight range". The gym owner boasted about my progress last time to new clients, I guess I'm too concerned about what they think.
Kate TII - I get the "Checkins" done like it or not. I believe it has actually helped me by motivating me to work harder at getting to a goal. I go to Curves in Korea ...they can't "guilt me into going more/buying their products/renewing subscriptions" because 1. It's Curves and 2. They barely speak English.

My advice - keep doing what you've been doing so that you get accurate and appropriate feedback for the time between your last checkin and this one
I assume you are paying for this
so this should be used to inform / bolster your decisions - not to impress the gym owner who is taking your money
if it turns out that your fitness / progress is not on track then adjust what you've been doing
if you take any drastic measures you may as well not do the check-in because you will be judging short-term dehydration / glycogen loss rather than actual progress
get what you pay for0 -
Quick fixes for these panic moments don't do anything except stress you out. If you are working a plan for the long term stick with it. It doesn't matter what the gym people think.0

That's not a high enough stake to justify a crash diet. Having done crash diets to make weigh-ins when I was in the military, I cannot recommend them even when one's job depends upon it, which is not the case for you.0 -

You need a regular plan to gow if you want to be successful. It makes no sense to try and game the process to meet s weigh in. If it's that important, then follow your plan every day to avoid drama snd crisis and panic. You might consider a weight trending app such as Happy Scale (phone), trendwright(computer), or libra. This shows graphically where your weight is at and evens out the fluctuations and let's you set mini goals.0 -

Here's the thing, though: it clearly has not motivated you in the way you hoped. It's causing you to panic to the point of considering unhealthy extremes.0 -
If for some reason you do not want to eat the rice, just ignore it on your plate if they won't listen.0

If you panic and do everything in your power to quickly lose weight for this weigh in it sets you up to having to do it for every weigh in which is a bad cycle. You'll probably regain what you lose quickly and you will have to lose more for your next check in. Just be honest about it and don't change anything.0
