A possibly silly question...

Okay, so...I read online, and I know that right there is a bit on the dubious side, that the more fit you get, the more you sweat when you exercise because your body can't tell if you're just about to prance around for a bit to get your heart rate up or if you're about to go all out and burn major calories so when you start to exercise you start sweating a lot no matter what you do.
I have noticed that I sweat more but it could be a new medication (escitalopram) that I'm on that has some annoying side effects. I'm just curious and wondering if anyone else has this issue with either reason.

I actually don't know the answer but I'm like that too. I *think* it's likely that it's genetic - some people just sweat more than others.0

I would love to think I'm fit, but I just sweat a lot regardless! I know these folks at the gym who are obviously lifting more than me who don't break a sweat, but I'll be doing 60% less and sweat like a pig. :ohwell:0

I can't say for sure in your case, but the medication you are on has a known side effect of causing increased sweating, I have been on similar meds in the past and experienced the same, Sometimes the sweat would just pour off me, with very little exertion. It IS annoying as heck but not much you can do about it. It does get slightly better over time but doesn't fully go away.0

Me too, but we stay cooler. People who don't sweat well tend to overheat faster. So enjoy it!0 -
Much like you taste something sweet, and even if it has no carbs in it, your insulin can start being released in preparation for it.
Of course if no carbs actually there, probably just caused low blood sugar levels.
But same on getting fit, you start moving and body warms up quicker. Not that you start sweating in response.
If you rarely did before, you likely won't later either, your body just doesn't need to.
But since warmed up muscles work better, that is a benefit.
Kind of like the fight or flight response, all kinds of physical changes start kicking off to do either of those.
And then all you end up doing is giving a presentation to a room of people, but now you are sweating, pulse is up, legs are jittery, got your adrenal rush, muscles are tight and primed, including your throad, ect.
Me personally, I sweat loads, and I indeed do start sweating pretty early on what ends up being easy efforts, but you also reach the point that if you don't really push it, you don't real get as primed as you might anyway. So I've found it backs off a bit in response and severity.0 -
My sweating depends on several reasons:
1. How much water did I drink prior?
2. How humid is it out?
3. How hot is it?
4. What kind of clothes am I wearing?
5. How hard am I going to go?
Remember, sweating is just the bodies ability to cool itself, and in actuality your increase in sweat might be because you are mastering your workouts that you have to step it up, causing your core temp to increase thus causing more sweat.0 -
This is definitely true for me.
As soon as I start exercising, I am soaked within minutes!
However, there is a silver lining. I no longer get sweaty during daily non-exercise activities - at all. I used to get sweaty sitting. Going to the store. etc.
I'm loving this summer.0 -
All I know is after a hard class of Zumba or Insanity, My baseball cap is completely soaked and dripping sweat off the brim of the cap. Not to mention all my clothes are drenched. but what I heard is people who sweat more have a more efficient energy that is condusive to self cooling.0

I've always been one to just skip glistening and go straight to sweating, but since the med it's been bad. I start dripping sweat with very little work and I dislike it muchly. I hope it does get better over time. I'll just have to keep turning the ac up to "polar bears ice skating", keep a sweat rag handy, and push it hard to earn my showers lol and hopefully soon it eases up a bit.0 -

This is correct. 6 months i sweated the 'normal' amount from gym - but once started with Personal Trainer I am now even on sessions on my own dripping. My neck sweats and my arms are always running with water which never happens.
He says this is because I am getting fitter and upped my game in gym. So any night im in he now expects me to be dripping. Some days it annoys me as I look a right state but others - now i know unless im bad I havnt worked as hard as i should have.
Means your working hard0
