Christmas Confusion

Hi all,

So for Christmas there's usually chocolates, bacon sandwiches and a huge dinner followed by dessert and probably cheese and wine later on which sounds great but this year me and my hubby have been in the Caribbean for the last 3 months and will be spending Christmas and New Years over here.

We came over on business and decided we'd get into shape while here, so we are on a fairly strict diet and workout every day sometimes twice a day which works for us and we enjoy that.
Now back to Christmas obviously it's very hot over here and doesn't feel festive, I'm all about trying to have it still feel Christmassy and want the dinner but my other half isn't really bothered as it doesn't feel like Christmas to us.
So should we book to eat out and just basically have a normal roast dinner or should I cook something festive and probably a bit unhealthy( I'll be wanting all the trimmings) or should we not bother and wait until we get home and re create Christmas?

Just lost lol

Do what you want. There's nothing unhealthy about Christmas dinner. It's one day out of many. Enjoy it how you see fit.

I personally say find a nice compromise? Maybe find a recipe more Christmas-esque than your normal meal, but one that is still healthy? I'm sure it's possible. :)

I think you're over thinking it and making way too much of an ordeal out of it. Discuss with your hubby - find something you'd both enjoy and just do it. Don't be so concerned about what it "should be" and instead enjoy the opportunity to do something new. Enjoy!

Do what you want! Are there any traditional Christmas foods from that area that you could make or buy?

I say eat out and enjoy. It's just one meal on one day.

It's mostly curry and things with spices round here, but the Christmas dinner is pretty much the same as any with turkey/ham pigs in blankets and things. Although it's not quite the same as home

If you're missing home, family, and the feeling of tradition than absolutely cook away! If it's not a big deal and you'd just be going through the motions then eat out and have fun with your new routine

I would join in on whatever the local celebration is, but that's me. I heard a wonderful story on NPR last night about a family going to Mexico to build a school one December and participating in the village's Christmas celebrations while they were there.
