Scale watching

Hello people. I have been active at myfitnesspal for a month now. I am 5' 9" and started out at 260 lbs but am now at 248.
I have been at 248 lbs for what seems like almost a week and a half. The weight tends to have bottomed out there but according to the calories in...calories out thinking, it should steadily be declining right?
Well anyway...I have tweaked my diet, increased my walking, added in elliptical and just yesterday started strength training.
That all being said...my belt has had to be pulled in about 2 1/2 inches and I can visibly see that my belly is getting smaller and my shirts feel looser.
So...should I abandon the scale altogether? Is this happening to anyone else? Thanks.

You won't lose every day/week because of other outside factors (sodium, exercise, stress). If you just started exercising or changed it up, you'll probably still remain stalled or even gain as your muscles hold water to repair. Keep at it and if that weight doesn't start to drop in a month, then it's time to reevaluate your logging.0

I just went 2.5 weeks with no net loss, just a lot of fluctuation in a 3-4 lb range. Now in the last 5 days I've had 3 drops for more than 2 lbs total. This is how my body has responded for the last 18 months and 123 lbs of loss. I don't particularly "like" it, I can't give you a scientific reason for it, but I know that's what I can expect.
You could get an app like Happy Scale where you can track daily, see the patterns, and get overall trends and moving average. Congrats on gone inches lost!!0 -

Weigh yourself daily. It's a good daily reminder. Absolutely no harm.0

I like to weigh daily too, I have an app that shows me the trend. So one day I am up a pound one day I am down 1.5 pounds, but either way the app shows that my trend has been a steady decline the whole time. But it totally depends on what your mind can handle. If your clothes feel different and you look different and that will be an easier thing for you to see and stay motivated by, then there is no harm in dropping the scale. It is all about what will make you keep up the good work.0
