Is it ok to be way under the daily limit for sugar? I always hit my carb and protein goals but only about half the sugar.

There is no minimum daily level of sugar one should have.

Awesome, thanks! I assumed so, but wasn't sure if it was one of those weird things that sound unhealthy but are actually vital.

I consume no added sugar at all; but I eat fruit, and sometmes I go over my sugar limit.

Consuming minimal sugar is most likely un-American but not unhealthy.

The important number is total carbs, even for diabetics. Sugar is just one type of carb (as is starch and fiber) and they all break down into glucose in your body (except insoluble fiber, which granny used to call "roughage" and is necessary for intestinal health but not absorbed). The only difference between sugars (simple carbs) and starches (complex carbs) is how fast it hits the bloodstream. You do not want to be under in your fiber. It is OK to be under in your sugar. I changed my diary to track fiber instead of sugar because it is important to get enough.
