Biggest Surprise

What has been your biggest surprise about dieting/losing weight/getting fit?

I was surprised that I didn't have to keep my fat intake low to lose bodyfat.
I was also surprised at how quickly I can drop off weight with only moderate exercise like walking (like, I didn't have to torch loads of calories daily exercising).
I was also surprised at how much my body shape changed with only a little bit of weight lifting!

  • I was surprised at how not everyone is happy that you lose weight. I was surprised that people that barely talked to me before all of a sudden make efforts to talk to me now. I was very surprised at how many people watch you and anticipate your failure. I was relieved that there were a few people that actually were routing for me and remained supportive and even got inventive with their support through out this process. I'm greatful for them.

I'm surprised by how much more stamina I have after just a few weeks of walking for exercise. I'm surprised by how motivated I am to go out and walk more.

Surprised just how fast it happens, once you have everything dialed in.

    I was surprised:
the first night I felt my knee bones touching while going to sleep on my side
    that I became gym rat
sitting on the subway is easier-I can squeeze in the little space between two large people

I was a bit surprised by how much the weight I've lost weighs.

    I've lost 26 kg.

A few weekends ago, my husband and I were running a cycling event, and were hauling around 15 litre jugs of water to the rest stops. I could lift and carry one at a time, and I was struggling with that. While it was possible for me to lift 2 of them, I couldn't walk with 2 ... too heavy. And yet ... that's about how much I lost!! I was walking and cycling and doing all my daily activities with the equivalent to 26 litres of water on me ... and that is heavy!! No wonder I struggled so much to do things like ... breathe.

My biggest surprise is that I actually burn over 1800 calories every day! I thought it would be much less. I never had a way to monitor this until I got MFP.

My biggest surprise has been how much I would love the exercise. Not like, not tolerate, but love it and look forward to it. It feels awesome to be fit and strong. It is amazing what your body can do when you let it.

Thank you for sharing that! I can't lift anywhere near the amount of weight I need to lose. I'm already feeling so much better after losing just a fraction of it, I can't wait to not have to lug any of it around with me anymore!
