Help with food!

So.. my doctor has put me on phentermine and topomax for weightloss help.. Triamt/HCTZ for diuretic because my body refuses to release extra water weight, and Lisinopril for high BP due in part to phentermine. I'm not really sure what is doing it, but I find now that I'm having a very hard time even getting to 1000 cal./ day.

I drink about 32-64 oz of water per day. But getting food into me lately is proving extremely difficult. Eating even 300cal worth of food and I start to feel a little nausea and I feel over full. Yet give me an hour or so and my stomach will start to growl.. so I eat a little and immediately start to regret it because that nausea feeling comes back. I'm not sure if it's the type of foods I'm eating or if I should try to look up more calorie dense foods to at least keep me up within 1000cal a day, as everywhere I read says that anything less than this is unhealthy. Or is it ok to eat less than that if you take a multi-vitamin?

Or not taking anything and learn how to eat in a deficit. This will be life long thing you need to learn how to do without drugs. You cannot take them for the rest of your life. Learn how to do it now. You will be much more successful.

The vitamin is not going to do much.
Try to eat protein rich foods: ham, nuts, peanut butter, eggs, chicken, beans, tuna, milk, cheese, yogurt, pecans, pumpkin seeds, pork chops, lentils, chia seeds, hot dogs, cheeseburger, peanut m and m's.
It is possible that in a week or two the side effects will not bother you as much.

Very low calorie diets (VLCD) should be medically supervised, so ask your doctor if it's ok.
Also, feeling nauseous & full after a small meal can be a sign of a medical problem, so again, ask your doctor. :+1:

Can the doc refer you to a dietician ?

Since this sounds like a pretty aggressive approach to weight loss, and your profile indicates you have over 150 lbs to lose, I am guessing there are medical reasons for fast weight loss? Talk to your about how you feel. Medically supervised very low calorie diets are not that uncommon, but you need to keep in touch with your dr. And ask for a sample diet, there might be restrictions, especially depending on what health issues you are facing and what restriction the meds have.

Phentamine is an amphetamine so of course you cant eat! Thats what it does. Thats why tweekers are all so skinny. Id suggest halving the dose under doctors guidance.

thank you for all the replies. I had honestly never even heard of these drugs until the doctor started me on them. I thought perhaps I was doing something wrong and needed to change my food even more. I will however look into more protein rich foods. As for medical reasons, I'm not really sure if my doctor thought I had to loose it fast or not. I was diagnosed pre-diabetic, and my blood pressure had been on the higher side. But he never mentioned it was dangerously so. But I have gone from 308.6 to 276.6 in 3 months. 1 1/2 months of that was before the phentermine, topomax and lisinopril. I will talk with him and see if perhaps he can recommend a dietitian, as from what most of of your comments are suggesting that some of these things may just need help to get used to or may not be normal. :) Thank you again everyone!!
