Hello,

I have a question about my target heart rate. I am doing the couch to 5K workout and I notice my heart rate is at 185 when running at my peak, is this ok?

Here are my stats:
Male, 30 years old, 210lbs

Thank you!

My experience is that when first starting out it is futile to try and control your heartrate since the aerobic conditioning is so poor that its impossible to get any kind of work done without the heartrate approaching max.

Run at a relaxed pace and don't worry too much about heartrate until you finish the program. Once you build some aerobic fitness and are running 3 miles heart rate zones will be more useful.

As long as you don't have any heart problems a high heartrate is not going to hurt you.

    ^^^^ What he said!

As your fitness improves you should notice that your average heart rate falls, your resting heart rate falls and your heart rate recovers more quickly. For now run on perceived effort, most of your runs should be at a pace at which you can speak in complete sentences (ie carry on a conversation) - it may feel like you're running ridiculously slow but one of the most important lessons I learned was to consciously slow down.
