Hi, as per the title, I have a feeling after eating plenty at Christmas it's better to then go with maintenance calories for a week or two before starting on a cutting diet?

Why? Just go back to cutting or else your week could turn into a month.

Why do you feel that? It might be for you if it helps you stick to your goals and it can't do any harm

    Why a week or two?
I find it works best for me to just get back to eating at my normal calorie deficit as soon as possible after a holiday.

After getting on the scale this morning, I am going back to cutting and paying more attention to what I am eating. I have had my feast day, and enjoyed every mouthful, but it is time for me to move forward.

I don't think it makes a difference. I, personally, will be cutting calories starting Tuesday. I'm not counting calories at all until then. I'm not going crazy but I'm just not messing with it until then.

I'm maintaining - not actively losing anymore but Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were so HEAVY for me food-wise that I made the decision to lower my calories in the days following. I do want to lose any water retained but mainly, I want to lose this groggy "oh lord I'm so full" feeling! I know it's generally frowned upon but yesterday (26th Dec), I could only manage around 767 calories. Not something I'd EVER usually do but I feel I more than made up for the deficit in the previous days. So technically it's all balancing out.

Today I plan to get back into my work-out's and have a smaller deficit (maybe around 300-500). After that, I'm back on to maintaining as normal :)

I can't see any reason to decide to go for maintenance if you want to lose just because you ate too much in the last few days... it seems totally backwards to me.
