Listening to the 60's in the summertime?

I was born in the mid 70's into a big family (youngest of 5 kids), so mom and dad took us camping quite a bit in the summer as our vacation from an early age. Whenever this time of year rolls around, I find that I have to put away all of the music I normally listen to and put on the 60's station on Pandora. Listening to something like The Association or The Byrds, America, Crosby Stills & Nash, etc - takes me right back to smokey campfires and long and lazy summers, heady smells of summer foliage. It's great to have a little free time on the porch swing on the weekend listening to this stuff - I can close my eyes and suddenly I'm 6 years old again, covered in dirt and licking a ring pop. Those were the days!

I'm sure it's different for every generation, but I always have a soft spot for those protest songs and the soft sounds of the 70s. This is probably particular for me because my older sisters were all born in the 60s, so I had a lot of musical influence from a very young age. I think I need to go find my Seals & Crofts record now so I can hear Summer Breeze... :flowerforyou:

I was born in 78 myself and I can relate to what you are saying. Something about those smooth sounds of the 60s and early 70s tunes that just takes you away to a better place. My workout mix for the gym even has some CCR on it. Those were the days of truly talented musicians that knew how to just hit that right spot within a person.

I actually remember sitting in my high chair at 3 years old, eating Gerber Rice, & listening to "Summer Breeze" & "I Can See Clearly Now." That taste of that breakfast still comes up in my mind when I hear these songs today.
