There was a report on the News this evening about a study out of the University of British Columbia.
The basic premis was that exercise, particularly weight training, has positive effects, even improvement, on the brain in the elderly.
The research is getting further funding by the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation in the new year.
As someone heading towards the elderly population I was wondering if anyone had any further information on this research.
I am aware that continuing exercising as one ages has benefits for the brain, but this is the first I have heard that states weights in particular.
Cheers, h.

I've dealt with older clients for years now and the ones I've had in their 80's, usually have great clear thought patterns and I haven't experienced any with obvious dementia issues. Of course it's anecdotal, but some research indicates that the more oxygen you can get to the brain, the less risk of dementia. Since weight lifting not only helps to increase blood flow, hormonal actions in the body are also constantly being "assessed" by the brain and responding in kind.

@lorrpb thanks for posting the link. It is an expansion of the news item I saw.
I was so excited I posted before finding it. Looks like I will be keeping up with the lifting.
@ninerbuff, as always, thanks for your personal experience feedback. I knew you had worked with older clients and respect your assessments.

Even better is low carb - Keto. Your brain burns Ketones much more cleanly than sugar (carbs).0
