Tractor Tire/Tire Flips

I have just acquired two large tractor tires and would like to start using them for a workout. I have done some research on proper workouts utilizing a tire and have found some mixed responses.

Some say it should only be used for bodybuilding and some say working out with a tire (tire flips, etc.) is pointless. Does anyone know of a good workout routine with a tire for cardio/weight training?

You'll find mixed responses for all exercises, but common sense tells me that lifting a heavy object has fitness benefits. Check Youtube for exercises - there's a bunch there, and they discuss proper form. Aside from flips, i'd do rope pulls, possibly farmer's walks, and definitely wham it with a sledgehammer. :+1:

Well I was greeted by THIS today - maybe you could wait until they're off the tractor first, mate?

I'd start by ignoring anyone that said that tire flipping is a bodybuilding exercise

Great way to move and get some exercise. I see a neighbor on my street flip a huge tire up and down the street. Maybe set tires side by side and alternate flips. Have fun!

tire flips and whatnot are not really a body building exercise...i generally see them used as a conditioning tool for power lifters. flip 'em, beat 'em with a sledge hammer, pull them and push them like a sled, add in some farmers carries...good conditioning right there.

I'm not a body-builder--just a middle-aged mom who wants to be fit--but I love a good tire-flipping. Even better if you smash it with a hammer. That said, I think they are fun tools to keep your strength training interesting and varied--just like medicine balls, sleds, battle ropes, etc. I don't think they'd make for a complete work-out experience, but as part of a complete workout? They're awesome fun.

Just be careful if you hit it with a 10+ lb hammer. Everybody thinks they're he-man until they miss the tire and connect with their shin.
