Cholesterol intake question

Hello all,

I just switched my protein powder to Body Fortress because I couldn't find my usual stuff at the store I was at. I noticed the cholesterol levels are pretty high for a 49g serving (135 mg). I normally do 3 shakes per day along with regular diet to keep my protein intake around 140-160.

Question: in the few days I've used this shake, my cholesterol intake has been about 4-5 hundred per day. Which is obviously over the recommended 300 mg/ day. Could this intake be a future health issue? Has anyone been over their daily allowance of cholesterol (more than a few days)?

Dietary cholesterol doesn't impact blood cholesterol so, unless you have a medical reason not to eat foods high in cholesterol, don't worry about it.

That's where I've been confused. I've read up on it, and have gotten mixed answers. Thank you for your reply! :)

the FDA is in process of removing dietary recommendations for cholesterol on food labels given that there is little to no impact on blood serum levels. The American Heart Association and physicians have been pushing this for years...FDA is slow.

Because the answers are mixed. For roughly 1/3 of the population dietary cholesterol does indeed have a significant effect on blood cholesterol. For the other 2/3 (the majority), it has a negligible effect.

There are a very small percentage of people whose cholesterol is impacted by the food they eat. For most of us there is no change no matter how much we eat. I'll also add that having higher cholesterol is not always a problem by itself. It can be a symptom of other problems or it could just be the natural rate your body produces it. There is some evidence that having low cholesterol is a problem.

Oh I plan on it. Not because of the nutrient levels but because it tastes awful. But I can't bring myself to throw it all away, it was $20 lol. Never again though. MLO super high protein powder is my favorite, no flavoring, low cal etc.
