Hi everyone-
I'm starting up a new training cycle for an April marathon and am wondering if there's anyone else out there aiming for an April-ish race who wants to join forces for encouragement? I'm focused on nailing my workouts and also fueling and refueling healthily.

Hey, doing a 30 km, April 3rd- not quite a full but am interested in you're progression based on routines. I am trying a program from the book ' Run faster, run less" a runners world recommendation. The focus is on 3 runs a week -quality/tempo/long run. I've done 2 marathons on loosely based training methods and want to improve my pace time with a sound program. I think nutrition for me as well will help as I want to drop 10lbs to reduce stress on my joints and help kick off the triathlon season in better shape!

I am planning to do a half marathon in May. It'll be my first ever longer race, I've only ever done 5Ks. I am nervous about committing and then not following through with a training plan. I'm not exactly sure of where to start. I have a marathon book from runners world that I was reading, but it's so much information and makes me feel overwhelmed. So I definitely want to join in here for motivation, advice and etc.

This week I started a 16 week training program for a marathon on April 18. I expect to be pretty time crunched after I go back to 5 day work weeks next week, and online interaction is one of the things that is likely to get curtailed; so i'm not a great candidate for mutual encouragement. I did start a "talk to myself" thread on my training in the Long Distance Runners group. The intent is to ramble through the things that I need to think about while in the training program.

I made it to my first marathon without a formal training program, but the second one is kind of high profile and I want to treat it more seriously.

@ZambiNan - Yes, nailing the workouts is something I will be focusing on. That, and hitting the mileage targets for my plan. I'm pretty comfortable with my fueling strategies; while I will be practicing those in training, it won't be a major focus.

@KatEmmaMarie - Between now and May, you might want to build up to running a 10K, then perhaps a 15K or 10 mile race in April. The game changes as the distance stretches out. I got from a 5K to a 10K by just running farther, but I had to learn to train more formally to get to a half marathon. In particular, I struggled to learn how much to slow down to ensure I could keep running for 13 miles. Now, that's pretty natural; but it was a tough learning process getting to my first half. Top tip: Do your long runs slower than you think you can. I expect your marathon book will go into some detail on that point.

I'm doing a marathon on 2/28, so have been training for a while, but would love to share training ideas. I'm hoping to do at least one more this year (I did one back in '05 and hated it, hoping I will turn the corner with this one, as I do love half marathons).

There are a couple of good running groups you should check out: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/47-happy-feet-runners-unite
