The Mysteries of Macros

Ok, I've been on MFP for 100 days now, been very successful with weight loss, overall fitness, building muscle and am happy with where I'm headed. I've been ignoring the word "MACROS" whenever I see it mentioned in forum posts, hoping I didn't need to know. What I'm doing is working right? Why bother with more detail and tracking to just complicate things.

It dawned on me that I could be doing myself a disservice ignoring the mysterious macros. Maybe if I learn more about these little magic "macros" I could be more successful. Maybe if I knew what the hell a macro was, a macro could help me weigh 125 lbs. again. So here I am, asking for help. What are they, how do I figure out what "mine" are, what are the benefits of "hitting" your macros, etc.

My overactive imagination is picturing little Pac Man shaped amoebas marching around my system munching fat...please help me understand :)

    lol I am NO expert!! Actually Im in about your position of trying to grasp the concept, but the idea is that you eat a certain percentage of your 3 "macro" nutrients: protein, carbs, and fats. You can find it under you MFP app in pie graph form. What I have seen is that it should be something between 40/30/30 or 40/40/20... Hope that gives you an idea...
