Hello,

I was just curious how some of you manage to turn tracking into a habit, a normal part of your daily life? My struggle is that I have a job, 2 children under 5, a husband and am also studying at university. I do really well for several months and then something inside me snaps and I feel overwhelmed and the first thing to go is ALWAYS tracking my food. It's not because I'm lazy or don't want to do it, it's because it takes up so much brain power and time? I know I am not the only person that has so much going on....so how do you keep going when the stress peaks??

I decided that I am worth my own time. I don't mean this offensively but it's easier to eat junk and it's easier to not track and not work out and it is easy to make excuses. You need to decide you are worth your time and your health is worth that attention. You are worth it.

I like the motivational quotes on Pinterest, they keep me motivated, and one of my favorites is:

    Working out is hard.
    Being overweight is hard.
    Pick your hard.

I try to track as I eat. I have the app on my phone and iPad, so while I'm eating I'll usually track. If not, I catch up at the next meal. This week (my first 10 days) has been easy, as I've had the week off from work. Hopefully, the motivation will stay on track starting Monday! When I track, I normally stay on track and lose....if I don't track, all heck breaks loose.

It really doesn't take that long to track food. Yes occasionally there are annoying moments when you just can't find anything related to what you're trying to log, but it's not that big a deal.

I make it simple by preplanning and prelogging - part of my evening ritual is making sure I have the next day all planned out.

Then I just eat what I planned, and the only logging I do on the day of is a bit of snacking with the 250 or so calories I left free for day-of things.

Rather than weigh portions and then log them, I log portions and then weight them out. I only correct the entries if they are off significantly.

**THIS!!^^^** No way could I stay committed without planning, prepping and pre-logging. I also make it less stressful because I like basically the same thing for breakfast and lunch every single day <-- no brainer! Then we put alot of effort into delicious healthful dinners. And of course the Snickers ice cream bar every evening for snack.. LOL I've lost 50 lbs in 7 months. It was so easy we'll do this same planning and logging for, like, EVAH.
