Eating With Family

I rent an attic apartment above my parents so I share the kitchen with them. Because of this, we usually eat 3 or 4 dinners together each week.

While some meals are easy enough to guess (chicken breast and veggies) others are more difficult (casserole, stuffed shells, meatloaf, etc.) because my father is a good cook and loves to experiment, so recipes vary constantly and I don't want to hound him for exactly what he used and how much each meal.

For others who eat frequently with family or at others homes, how do you track? Do you estimate and hope for the best?

Thanks!

I would say estimate, and limit yourself on how much you eat, try filling the plate with mostly veggies and a small serving of what you can't count, or drink a bottled of water before you eat, this way you don't eat in excess. Oh and you could always save time for a quick workout when you know you going to get a hearty family meal lol

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. I'd like to start drinking water before meals anyways, so that'll be a great tool for those family meal days to keep my portions in check.

My dad is the same way. I usually ask "this is great! Would you send me the recipe?"
