Greetings,
I'm a 29 y/o retired marathon coach, previously pacing a 4 hour marathon, coaching from 2013-15 continuously, averaging about 35 miles per week for 3 years. After taking 3 months off, (and traveling/eating internationally I went from 150 to 185lbs, but I am back to training. Over the past 3 weeks, if I am doing a 6 minute 1-mile sprint, running 6 miles(10 minute pace), or just speed walking around the neighborhood, my Heart Beat locks in at 18 5BPM. No matter what I seem to do, it locks in at that rate... My heart rate has always been a little higher than normal ... but it did vary all over the place depending if I was running a 400 meter dash at 65 sec(190), or if I was pacing 20 miles a at 9:45 pace(155)...
Should I be concerned about the fact that 185 seems to be this new magic BPM no matter what I do?
Besides continuing to just loose weight, anything else I should be looking at for heart health besides not eating junky fat food?
Thanks,
Rob

Have you tried a different HRM? Maybe your one hasn't been used for a while due to your break and has become defective?0

Consider sodium consumption and electrolyte balance, as both of these can affect heart rate. It's a lot harder to move 185lbs than to move 150lbs.0

When I first started running early last year my heart rate would jump that high but as time went by it got lower. Keep watching it and see if it gets lower. Have you had any other types of test done before? Is your heart rate really 185 when you are speed walking (I am assuming you mean 4.5-5 mph)?0
