Does any one find it hard to exercise when it is so darn hot? I live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and today it was well I don't know the high but with the heat index at 5:14 pm it still feels like 102 according to TWC. That is crazy and tomorrow heat index of 109 and Thursday 112 that is just absolutely way to hot to do anything. I have been trying to walk after dinner but with temps like these you can't. What do you do?

Either early morning workouts outside or begin conditioing yourself to be outside for longer periods (ease yourself into it over a week or two). LOTS of fluids - gatorade, water, etc. Mostly water though, and some to dump over your head is a plus.

I live in Texas and I hate it because it is like that 9 months out of the year. I get severely depressed when "winter" is over. Exact opposite from most people. We just put in an above ground pool though so that has been helping with my workouts. I also do the bike inside. Other than that, I don't work out outside, ever. Not until November rolls around again.

joined a 24 hour gym and go around 10-11 pm to use the pool all by myself. then i get up and walk before 9 am when there's clouds or breezes; otherwise before 7 on muggy days. drink lots of water before and after. the heat is here tho--will be getting up at o-dark-30 soon, sigh

Swim! Also, one thing that helps me (I've done some long distance triathlons in extreme heat and they provide these at the aid stations) is to have sponges soaked in ice water. You can squeeze them over your head, put them on your shoulders (bra straps will hold them in place), wherever...cold water trickling down my back kept me going for 13.1 miles in 106*F in Florida last year. I started putting a cooler out on my porch for my long runs so I could just stop by and grab new ones as needed.

I'm feeling the same. I try to run/jog outside later in the evening but that isn't always convenient or cool enough. First thing in the am isn't possible. I do my elliptical and some dvd's inside but just starting running and really love it. I'm considering selling the elliptical and putting that $$ towards a treadmill for the hot days and snowy ones too.

early morning or just as the sun is setting is what I'm doing. I live in CO and while we don't have your kind of humidity it gets near 90 most days. If I do it in the house I up my AC for about 30 minutes before hand and turn a fan on me.

I live 30min from St Louis, MO on the IL side and it was 96degres at 11am today! Yuck! I walk in the mornings for 30-40min. I usually walk after dinner, but with the heat right now, I plan on going to either my local mall or Walmart and walk it for a little bit. I don't have the funds for a gym membership myself, but I am lucky (and sometimes unlucky) to live across the street (literally) from my hubbys grandparents and they have a pool, so I try to get over there 3x a week and swim 'general' . I also have a Wii and 'Just Dance' game and that helps me rock out and exercise inside :) Hope this gives you (and you, you, and you too!) ideas! I am gonna follow this thread so I can get some ideas as well! XoxoxoX Bru
  • Well I live in England (but am from Illinois and used to live in Texas before moving over here). Normally it's nice and cool so it is not so bad but today it got to 75 and I thought I was going to die.

I know you guys will laugh at that but for some reason 75 over here feels like 100 in Texas... I don't know what it is but after a year and a half here it has turned me into a wuss when it comes to heat. I never liked it before anyway but it's gotten worse now.

I am always on my treadmill inside or using my DVD player to do videos but almost no houses have air conditioning over here so it gets hot pretty easy. I use lots of fans!

I'm in Memphis and we've had record-breaking temps too... it has been 100+ heat index right up until sunset (when it drops to 95ish). I've had good intentions of getting out first thing in the morning... but that hasn't happened... so I have just been exercising as late at night as I can get out and still get home before (or slightly after) dark. I am just doing some brisk walking around the neighborhood so it isn't really high intensity... I'm not sure I'd be able to run in this heat! I've also been doing some workout DVDs.

That is really cool! :) We have people who walk around the mall here, though I haven't checked into it.... I really like the idea of mile markers!
