For most people I know, being called thick (stupid) is an insult.

But do you want to gain weight just to gain weight (get fat), in which case, yes, your health will be negatively affected,
or do you want to get/be/stay healthy, possibly adding muscle so you'll be strong & look fabulous?

For the first, eat whatever you want, as much as you want.
For the second, figure out your maintenance calories (see blog post below for an assortment of calculators),
then eat slightly above that (maybe 200-300 cal), with emphasis on protein, and focus on weightlifting.
Muscles rebuild, get larger, get stronger, during the REST after being stressed, so don't train every day.

Here are a couple of sites which can give more, better, and more detailed advice.

In both cases, ignore what they're selling. Just pay attention to the explanations of exercises & science.

Men will gain muscle faster than women, and will be able to build more overall.
People who are new to weightlifting will see changes more quickly at first, so don't be discouraged when
your early gains don't continue in a straight graph line.
