Teaching, working, snacking. A poem.

(Based on a true story. I started dieting in Dec right as school went out for break. I'm not at 3 weeks yet and trying hard. Today this was pretty much my life.)
Twas the day school returned and all through my house
No unhealthy crumbs were to be found, not even for a mouse.
The workout videos were stacked by the TV with care
In hopes that my calories would no longer be there.
At school, however, children stayed nestled all snug in their beds.
"A teacher in-service day," said our department heads.
So me with my coffee and my aide with her jerk(y)
Had just settled in for a long day of paperwork.
When I opened my drawer with such a clatter,
My aide looked over to see what was the matter.
"Chocolates," I whispered, as I look at the stash,
My old go-to pile of goodies I hadn't be able to trash.
Gently I took them and put them away,
Out of sight, out of mind, for another day.
Accomplished I felt, for this one little goal,
as my willpower brightened my hungering soul.
With a little willpower and hummus (just a lick),
I got through the morning without a trick.
More rapid than eagles, lunchtime it came,
as co-workers whistled and shouted and called my name:
"Now lunch! Now food!
Now let's go out to eat!
Let's get some fast food
On me, it's my treat!
To the top of the food chain!
To the drive through lane!
Now dash away, dash dash away
Dash away all!"
As a glance at motivation before I did fly,
I remembered my lean cuisine I had yet to try.
So these dear lunch offers I did reject,
And earned a 2nd time of healthy self respect.
As I left school today dressed from my head to my foot,
and the cold made me excited to raise my cardiac output.
And I exclaimed to myself as I drove out of sight,
"I've got to exercise after my lesson plan tonight!"

As a teacher myself, this is the best thing I have read all week.
Congrats on the success!0 -
Love it!! BTW, I always thought "teacher in-service days" were an excuse for them all to go out to Chi-Chis for margaritas0

As a teacher, I love this! And it's so true!
We had an I service today so I had my diet coke to keep me awake. But once I got to my desk, I looked to see if I had any chocolates stashed away. Nope. I didn't. I don't know why I even looked. I don't keep candy very often! I also turned down lunch out and had a turkey sandwich.
Good job with your successful day!!!0 -
Ha!
I love going out on in-service days. Bravo to you for resisting!0
