if a person goes over their calories (by enough to cause them to gain weight) How long would it be before they put on weight if they were going to?

I think that really varies by person. To gain 1 lb you would have to OVEREAT by about 3500 calories. If you overeat that much today, it doesn't necessarily show up on the scale tomorrow. It might take a few days. The scale might show more than 1 lb increase because of water weight, normal fluctuations, etc. In general it's best to monitor on a weekly and monthly basis. If you're showing 1 lb increase every week for several weeks, then that's a reason to get concerned and take action. If you're overeating by a small amount every day, it won't show up for a few weeks. 100 calories per day = 10 lbs per year!0

It depends on how much over you are eating, how big/small the person is to begin with, and the person it self, because no body reacts the same.
But generally the more you over eat, the faster you gain weight. Just be careful because fast weight gain is not healthy, same as fast weight loss.0
