HRM advice?

Does any one know a formula for subtracting the BMR calories set by MFP from the burn recorded by my HRM (Polar FT4)

The daily goal set for me is 1420(before exercise obviously) so I thought it maybe something like 1140(mins in a day) divided by 1420=0.80

So would I subtract 0.8 cals from each min of exercise to have a more accurate measure of my recorded burn with my HRM?

Please forgive my ignorance as I am new to this method of measuring my exercise burns and any help would be appreciated.:flowerforyou:

do you use your heart rate monitor all day, or just for exercise?

What mfp gave you is not your BMR. your Basal Metabolic Rate is the (estimated) bare minimum of calories needed to maintain your body if you were laying in a hospital bed in a coma.

remember that most calorie burn and consumption estimations are just that, estimations.

a HRM is not meant to be worn all day, as they are designed to be worn during exercise and register higher then normal heart rates and calorie burns. as far as trying to subtract a calorie or two for every minute you work out from your estimated calorie burn, that is just splitting hairs. you'll drive yourself crazy. i do commend you though. most people tend to over-estimate how much they work out, and underestimate how much they actually eat.

i used to play around with things like this myself. but then i discovered the TDEE-20% method. basically you figure out your estimated Total Daily Energy Expenditure for an average day, and then subtract twenty percent. don't add/eat your exercise calories.

so let's just say you TDEE is 2000 calories... minus twenty percent... you should eat on the regular, 1,600 calories. if there are some days you eat a little more or whatever, thats okay, as long as you stayed under your TDEE of 2000, you'll still be in the black.

You're basically right, but I think you might be using the wrong number (1480). Go back into you profile and tell MFP that you dont want to lose our gain weight (weight loss goal of 0lbs per week). Whatever number mfp gives you then, use that number.

Just exercise, not all day...so if it were to split hairs it would be my TDEE divided by 1140 (mins in a day), before a loss was calculated. thanks Jacksonpt I think I got it now.

    thanks for the reply's/:drinker:
