Hi everyone, I am looking for advice on how to work out the amount of calories I should be aiming for.
My BMR says 1560 but MFP set it at 1260 as a standard.
I know I have a slow metabolism (yes really!) I have Hashimotos a dodgy Thyroid function (unmedicated - sub clinical) and slow metabolism from an eating disorder about 10 years ago.

I am 5/7"
48
currently weigh 204lbs and need to about 175lbs. Which I was three years ago without much effort. I was dancing a lot then but due to a ligament injury this is now difficult.

Any advice where to start please.
thanks x

MFP gave you 1240 calories to eat based on the activity level, your stats and the weight loss rate you gave it. So you have the answer.

If you don't like the answer you can change the weight loss rate you ask for, in either direction.

Your BMR is only part of the calculation and not a target in itself.

How active are you during the day? If sedentary then around 1650 a day to lose 0.5lb a week, 1400 to lose 1lb a week.

I always struggle with this one as well. I'm sedentary during the day (typical office job with minimal walking around), however I workout most nights. I'm currently 203 lbs, 5'9" would love to lost at least a pound a week. Any thoughts?

Activity level is generally used for your activity level other than actual exercise.

So you have a desk job, your likely sedentary. No matter how much you work out at night. You log the exercise separately.

Op you sound like you have your answer, you entered your details to mfp, chose a weight loss goal and it gave you 1260.

Eat that and hopefully you lose weight at the rate you wish.
